What Happens in a Hair Transplant?
It is a minimally invasive technique in which hair follicles are removed from one part of the body, called the ‘donor site’, and implanted into a bald or balding part known as the ‘recipient site’. It has two steps: extraction and implantation.
What is F.U.E.?
FUE (follicular unit extraction) is a minimally invasive extraction technique i.e. to obtain grafts. Unlike FUT or strip method, there is no use of scalpel, staples or sutures. Hence FUE is aptly described as a “procedure” rather than a “surgery”.
In this technique, the donor area is trimmed so the individual follicular units (FU’s) are exposed. Once the individual follicular units are visible, the most ideal ones can be extracted. Usually, the units with maximum follicles are chosen for removal. This helps in giving better density.
After harvesting, the technicians make sure that extracted FU’s are clean, excess tissue is removed and they are perfect for the recipient site.Each graft has 1-5 hair.These grafts are then counted and separated.
For individuals who don’t want to disclose about their surgery, non-shave or non-trim modification of FUE can be performed. This helps in bringing down the postoperative downtime to zero.
