What is Advanced Hair Loss?

More loss does not mean
fewer options.

Advanced hair loss can feel overwhelming, the more you lose, the fewer options you feel you have. But significant baldness does not mean a hair transplant is out of reach. With the right planning, the right technique, and honest expectations, it is possible to achieve a meaningful, natural-looking restoration even at the most advanced stages.

At Aeon Clinic, we approach advanced cases with a combination of precise graft management, strategic zone prioritisation, and, where needed, the use of body hair as an additional donor source. Every plan is designed specifically around what your scalp and donor area can realistically provide.

Hair Loss Classification

What Counts as Advanced?

Grade 5, 6, and 7 on
the Norwood Scale.

N5

Norwood Grade 5

Significant hair loss across the top and crown, with a narrowing bridge of hair still connecting the frontal and vertex areas. The bald areas are large but not yet fully joined.

N6

Norwood Grade 6

The frontal and vertex bald areas have merged. Hair loss covers most of the top of the scalp. The donor area remains on the sides and back, but coverage demands are high.

N7

Norwood Grade 7

The most advanced stage, a narrow band of hair remains along the sides and back. Scalp donor supply is limited, and body hair transplant may be required for supplementary grafts.

How We Approach Advanced Hair Loss

Our Process

Strategic planning
over maximum grafts.

01

Detailed Assessment

We evaluate the full extent of hair loss, donor density across the scalp, scalp laxity, and realistic coverage goals before any planning begins. This assessment determines everything that follows.

02

Strategic Zone Planning

We prioritise the frontal zone first for maximum visual impact, then plan the crown based on remaining donor availability. Every graft is allocated where it will make the greatest difference.

03

High-Density Grafting

Advanced FUE techniques maximise graft yield from the donor area, extracting the highest possible number of healthy follicles without compromising donor area density or future sessions.

04

Multi-Session & BHT Planning

Full coverage may require more than one session. Where scalp donor supply is insufficient, beard or body hair transplant (BHT) provides additional grafts to supplement the scalp harvest.

Why Aeon Clinic

Why Choose Aeon for Advanced Hair Loss

Honest. Strategic.
Built for complex cases.

Advanced hair loss cases require a different level of planning, experience, and candour than standard transplants. At Aeon Clinic in Bandra, Mumbai, we specialise in exactly these cases — and we will always tell you what is achievable before we commit to anything.

Specialist Experience

Our surgeons have extensive experience in complex, high-graft cases, including Grade 5, 6, and 7 patients where planning is as important as surgical execution.

Honest Consultation

We tell you what is achievable, not just what you want to hear. If full coverage is not realistic in one session, we say so and plan accordingly, not optimistically.

Maximum Graft Yield

Advanced FUE technique maximises the number of healthy grafts harvested from the donor area without over-harvesting, protecting the donor zone for future sessions.

Multi-Session Strategy

Where a single session cannot achieve the desired outcome, we plan a staged approach that delivers progressive improvement across multiple procedures over time.

Body Hair Transplant

When scalp donor supply is limited, beard and body hair transplant extends what is achievable — providing supplementary grafts from alternative sources where appropriate.

Zone-First Planning

Frontal zone restoration is always prioritised for maximum visual impact. Even a partial restoration, well-planned, can dramatically transform a patient's appearance and confidence.

Honest Outcomes

What we will tell you
before we begin.

Full scalp coverage may not always be achievable in a single session, multi-session planning is common at Grade 6 and 7

The goal is always to create the most natural, impactful result with the grafts available, not just to fill as much space as possible

A well-executed partial restoration, particularly of the frontal zone, can dramatically improve appearance and confidence

Results, graft estimates, session count, and donor limitations are discussed fully and openly at consultation, before anything is committed to

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions, Answered

Everything you want to know about
Advanced Hair Loss Transplant.

Very rarely. Even at Norwood Grade 7, a meaningful restoration is usually possible, the key question is not whether you can have a transplant, but what realistic coverage is achievable given your specific donor area. A consultation at Aeon will involve a thorough assessment of your donor density, scalp laxity, and coverage goals, and will give you an honest picture of what a transplant can and cannot achieve in your case.

This depends on the degree of hair loss, the density of your donor area, and your coverage goals. For Grade 5 patients with good donor density, a single large session may achieve meaningful results. For Grade 6 and 7 patients, two or more sessions spaced 9 to 12 months apart are commonly needed to build progressive coverage across the frontal zone and crown. The session plan is always discussed in full at consultation.

Body Hair Transplant (BHT) involves extracting follicles from non-scalp donor areas, most commonly the beard, chest, or back, and implanting them into the scalp. It is used when scalp donor supply is insufficient to achieve the desired coverage, either as a standalone session or combined with scalp FUE. Beard hair is the most commonly used non-scalp donor source, as it is closest in texture and calibre to scalp hair. BHT is not suitable for everyone and is assessed case by case at consultation.

Yes, naturalness is a function of how grafts are placed and how the result is planned, not simply how many grafts are used. At Aeon, graft placement, angle, density graduation, and hairline design are always the priority, even in high-volume cases. A partial restoration that prioritises the frontal zone with a well-designed hairline will always look more natural than an attempt to cover the entire scalp too thinly or too uniformly.

This is determined at your consultation through a physical assessment of your donor area density, the total area requiring coverage, your scalp laxity, and your goals. Our doctor will give you a realistic graft estimate and a clear explanation of what is achievable in one session versus what might require further sessions. There are no guarantees or inflated promises, you will leave the consultation knowing exactly what to expect.
